Floating Breakwater – Taiwan

Floating Breakwater – another work of art in Taiwan crafted by Walcon Marine Australia

Since two well-known projects delivered in Taiwan (one smoothly installed in Kaohsiung in 2022 and the other successfully delivered in Anping in 2023), Walcon won the third Marina Construction Project in Taichung, Taiwan in March 2024.

This Marina Project in Taichung includes a 6-meter-wide, 132-meter-length floating breakwater and forty-nine aluminium heavy-duty berths, consisting of one berth for 70-meter luxury sightseeing yacht, one berth for 45-meter luxury yacht, twenty-three berths for 25-meter luxury yachts, and remaining twenty-four berths for less than 25-meter yachts.

The highlight of this Project is the adoption of WALCON ASTRA’s semi-flexible connection. This is the device to obtain the best wave protection, as well as to protect the breakwater itself from the wave effect. Moreover, the berth uses WALCON HEAVY DUTY’s double-slot aluminium alloy as the main beam. The mooring bollards and pile guild can also be flexibly moved and displaced, providing a convenient and fast installation method. The tidal range of this project is approximately 6 meters thus a 25-meter gangway is applied.

The breakwater will be manufactured in WMA’s Chinese factory and shipped to the site by flat container by sea. Remarkably, this is the first time that WMA uses a standardized indoor method to produce floating breakwater, because indoor production provides a modular production method and flow line production process for the product. Effectiveness and efficiency can therefore be maximized through this standardization. Let’s wait and see how the successful completion of this Project will mark another great work of art in Taiwan and the human ingenuity displayed by Walcon Marine Australia!
